cast.

Han

An angel, born from a sweeping wildfire many eons ago. His birth means that he’s naturally aligned with fire and sunlight, and his personality reflects this: Han is a bright, playful, vibrant individual. He loves openly and easily (sometimes too easily) and wears his heart on his sleeve. Endlessly curious, he’ll try anything once, even the things that he knows aren’t good ideas. He can be reckless and thoughtless, especially when he’s excited or if it’s at the behest of someone he loves. Han has a good head on his shoulders and a quick mind, but he can be blinded by love - he’s known to get into bad relationships because he’s a bit too forgiving, believing the best in people. But Han is someone who sees the beauty in everyone and everything, and the bright-eyed optimism that can get him into trouble is the same one that draws people to him.

His primary forms of magic are song and dance. He uses song to draw strength from the sun to heal, and his dance magic summons fire. Rarely does he engage in combat, although he’s skilled at defending himself. Often, when he dances, it’s a form of celebration and joy, and lends a sense of warmth to those around him.

Leigh

Leigh is a human, and someone I describe as easy to love but hard to know. With a broad smile and quick-witted charisma, he does a good job walking the line between “rogueishly endearing” and “exasperating”. He’s known to stick his nose into trouble for fun, and just as confidently talk and charm his way out of it when he’s caught. He uses this same wit to deflect from prying questions, and sometimes it’s hard to know what he’s actually thinking behind those mirthful eyes. He rarely shows true vulnerability or negative emotion, and his good humour usually is enough to reassure people that all is well (or frustrate them into dropping the subject). Despite how lighthearted and jovial he comes off, under the chipper exterior, Leigh is a deeply thoughtful and intelligent individual, whose sharp eye picks up on much more than he lets on. He is a scholar and a rationalist, dedicated to his studies.

His primary form of magic is calligraphy, in which the ink animals he paints can come to life off page, for a little while. However, being a scholar of the arcane arts, Leigh is a prolific caster adept at many art forms.

Alexei - “Abel”

Alexei is an angel, but of a slightly different kind than most. He has many titles - timekeeper, storyteller - but he finds those a bit pretentious. “Abel” is his moniker and much simpler to say. He’s an angel who was born before history began to be recorded, said to be born of a great flood. Unlike other beings, Abel remembers. He remembers every life he’s lived and every death he’s died, and he remembers all of the people he’s met along the way. He knows the leylines of the world better than anyone, and has an almost encyclopedic knowledge about most things. His age has made him jaded; he can be sarcastic and short-tempered, and downright scathing when he wants to be. Under that, though, is a romantic. The history of the world is entrusted to Abel because, in the end, no one loves more deeply than him. Being the one always left behind is a heavy burden to bear, but it’s Alexei’s deep kindness and romantic heart (wrapped up in thorns as it may be) that makes him strong enough to carry that weight.

Alexei’s primary forms of magic are through his writing. By writing down the stories of the people he’s met and the worlds he’s lived in, he etches them into the memory of the universe. Maybe, if he’s lucky, he might be able to write someone a happy ending, even if just for one life.

Adonai

Adonai is a mortal, and someone who doesn’t ask for greatness but seems to attract it. He’s the closest to a typical “protagonist-type” I have: confident, laid-back, capable. He’s not someone who seeks out the spotlight, but rather someone who inspires it. He’ll step up to the plate and face challenges and responsibility head-on, and he’ll unerringly stand up for his people and principles, but Adonai hates the word “hero”. To him, he’s not a hero, he’s just Adonai, who tries to do the right thing. He’s aware that people rely on him, though, and so for their sake he tries to keep up a big smile and a level head. But being on a pedestal is lonely, and privately, Adonai aches to be loved for himself, not as a title or a lionized figure.

Adonai’s primary form of magic is through runes and whistling. His axe blade is carved in runes that can control ice and snow, and rocks he etches runes into can store spells. His whistling is a more immediate form of magic. The high, reedy tune bounces off the jagged mountains of his hometown and can summon winds and chills to aid him in both combat and in finding his way.
